Gear

"Melvin is sold out to the Nikon system (sorry Canon shooters). He shoots with Nikon D80 and Finepix S2 Pro dslr bodies. Mel loves using the 50mm f/1.8, and 80-200mm f/2.8D most. He also has a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8, and a Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8 Macro. For lights, he has two 500W/s studio strobes, but prefers to carry an SB800 Speedlight "because it's not as heavy". He packs all these equipment in a lovely Crumpler 'Karachi Outpost' backpack. He has other nice stuff too, but just doesn't want to tell you."

Sometimes ... sigh. Today is one of those sometimes days. I'll be ok.

Christmas is coming Wednesday, December 14, 2005 |

Christmas is just around the corner. And here comes the last minute shopping. I am sooooooo behind my gift buying. Ugh.

Another three days to the Glory Kids Christmas party! Can't imagine what it would be like to see the auditorium packed with so many kids. And what it would be like to share the true meaning of Christmas with them, that Jesus came to save us.

I look forward to the coming week. Things were not always this way though. I remember loathing... no, hating the Christmas season in years past. I remember I almost burnt out once after a round of non-stop year end frenzy. I was always uptight, never able to relax. I can still remember the smouldering ruin that was myself in those days. How things have changed. I have learned the meaning of being content, whether in big things or small. This Christmas I am content. And thankful. And I look forward to Christmas like never before. :o)

Kopitiam
It's as if time stood still. Especially after a nice lunch at JJ's. And nice kopi-o ping.

Less than a week to go to the GK party, and things are slowing down. Finally. We've been working hard. Too hard. Glad to wrap things up by this weekend. Ready or not, we're going to host around 1500+ kids on Saturday.

GK Staff Pool Party Monday, December 12, 2005 |

It was the evening of Saturday, December 10th. We had our annual staff thanksgiving dinner for all Glory Kids volunteers. For a change, this year's event was a rather low-key, informal one. I went dressed in shorts and slippers. I didn't even bring a towel or change of clothes. I jumped into the pool with these crazy guys. It was fun. Really. :o)

Food was good, and the fellowship was even more so. The DC Crew (youth leaders) even surprised Aunty Mag, Ham and myself with a special gift, a pair of pewter eagles flying together. And a nice Christmas card with a picture of the youth in front of it (the pic conveniently borrowed from the DC notice board: thanks guys!). I had a great time. More than that, I am so happy to be able to serve along with a company of heroes. You guys are my leaders, and I am so proud of you!
