Gear

"Melvin is sold out to the Nikon system (sorry Canon shooters). He shoots with Nikon D80 and Finepix S2 Pro dslr bodies. Mel loves using the 50mm f/1.8, and 80-200mm f/2.8D most. He also has a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8, and a Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8 Macro. For lights, he has two 500W/s studio strobes, but prefers to carry an SB800 Speedlight "because it's not as heavy". He packs all these equipment in a lovely Crumpler 'Karachi Outpost' backpack. He has other nice stuff too, but just doesn't want to tell you."

What A Gorgeous Template! Friday, October 13, 2006 |

I couldn't resist it... I just HAD to do something about my faulty blog template. And get a new one in the process. Got this beautiful template installed just under an hour. Away from home. Before breakfast. Clever boy. *Mel pats himself on the head*

Feels Like... Friday, October 06, 2006 |

Open Heart surgery. That's how it feels like. It's day 4 of the School, and I am really going through a lot of searching. Soul, spirit... the whole thing. Forget the xray machine, the Truth is infinitely more powerful. When I get back, a lot of myself has to be dismantled before I can go on with ministry. I am thankful I'm here. Dr. Jonathan's teaching has literally saved my life and ministry.

At the same time, I am seriously considering of getting the Nikon D200. An investment of this magnitude means one thing: my involvement with photography will be on a semi-pro level from this point on. My confidence in God's grace for me in this area is growing. I do believe strongly that this is the direction He wants me to take. Ministry and photography - sight unseen!

You see, the last frontier of the Church is the market place. I want to set the pace for ministry workers and the next generation that comes after me. We (in the full time) can and should enter the marketplace for two things: draw resources and to lift the standard of our testimony. Too many young people leave the Church because they see no future or hope in ministry. Every young person I have spoken too mention the same thing, "I won't consider the ministry because I pay too little or has no future career wise."

If there is one thing I want to do, is to prove that we can do what they did in the days of Nehemiah. Hold the sword in one hand, and build with the other. I will definitely go through this plan with my spiritual father, Ps. William, when I get back.

Boot Camp Wednesday, October 04, 2006 |

I've moved! Well, still in Muar though. Last night myself and 5 guys packed our things and moved in to the Bible school. As I mentioned in my last post, I was staying at Bill and Belinda's house. Apparently there was room at the Bible School for more students, so off we went. We help Bill move some stuff, and had a group photo before we packed our bags into the van. Bill and Belinda, thank you so much for the lovely stay at your place. I'll send the 'ant powder' when I get back to KK.

It's 6 of us in a room now. I'm bunking above Hamilton, it was fun. All these years I went camping with him, never heard him snore before. Last night, Ham SNORED haha. I'm sharing the room with pastors from Sri Lanka, Indonesia and the US. My former housemate Elisha from Banglore sleeps on the bunk next to mine. More on that another time. It's time for breakfast and another amazing day at SOP.

In Muar for 2 and a half weeks Monday, October 02, 2006 |

I'll be in Muar for 2 weeks plus. Actually I'm already here, arrived last night at around 8 pm. No, didn't bring my camera! Highly unusual, but that's because I want to concentrate fully while I'm at Dr. Jonathan David's School of the Prophets.

I'm staying with Bill and Belinda, a lovely couple who have opened their house for students to bunk in. I have only met one other house mate so far, Ulyses from Bagio, Philippines. Ten of us from GCC are here. Briefing starts tonight, and we'll be really busy with classes from tomorrow. Hope to blog on and off, depending on time (and energy!) I have while here.
